Baby Face | Elephant Art | Baby Elephant with Mother | Thailand | Nature | Animal Art

$20.00

In early 2008 I spent 7 days exploring Thailand with my camera and the clothes on my back. I met these sweet Elephants at BLES (Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary) in Northern Thailand. BLES is passionately devoted to creating a safe and natural home for Thai
elephants. They care for rescued and retired elephants, allowing them to interact freely within 500 acres of forested land.

At BLES there are no performances -- just elephants.

I found peace, healing and resored my spirit gazing into their wise eyes.

For humans and animals alike.. BLES is Sanctuary.

10% of all proceeds are donated to Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary. http://www.blesele.org

ENCAUSTIC ORIGINALS - What is Encaustic?

The word encaustic originates from the Greek word enkaustikos which means to burn in; all encaustic paintings integrate the element of heat. The paint itself is a mixture of beeswax, damar resin, and colored pigments. Beeswax is nature’s archival material, it is water resistant and will not yellow or darken over time. Encaustic originals are created in many layers, entirely by hand and are, by nature, completely unique.

First, I carefully sand the edges and apply a foundation of gesso to the wood, then I adhere recycled book pages on the edges of the board followed by a light brush with gold paint. Each hand-printed photograph is mounted to wood using archival matte medium, and sealed with the first layer of wax. Subsequent layers of color and texture are fused together with a heat gun. The composition is fine-tuned with a palette knife to shape and manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: As with all art forms, encaustic artwork should not be exposed to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Occasional light buffing with a soft dry cotton cloth will help maintain the intriguing texture and translucent surface.

COMMISSIONS: If you are interested in ordering a custom piece of art, any size, or material (Fine Art, Canvas, etc.) or if you are looking for a customized color palette, feel free to contact me.
